8 Steps to Schedule Your Social Media

Apparently, a lot of people are running around thinking that they’ll somehow have time to post on social media every day, in real time. Ya know, busy people that have a business to run.

Something HUGE that is blocking a lot of small business owners from consistency is the lack of using A SCHEDULER for their social media. This can save A TON of time, but a lot of people think it’s too complicated to even mess with it.

But you can…

Schedule Your Social Media in 8 Steps

The Steps to Scheduling Your Social

  1. Make a strategy
  2. Write copy for your posts
  3. Add hashtags
  4. Create content
  5. Upload to a scheduler
  6. Schedule
  7. Repurpose
  8. Analysis

Let’s break it down!

1. Make a strategy

If you just start posting randomly, are you REALLY ensuring that you’re going to create content that resonates with your audience and is aligned with your business goals?

Imma guess no.

So the first step is to make a strategy.

Here are some things to consider:

  • Identify your ideal client, customer, or follower
  • Pick content pillars (primary topics to cycle through)
  • Decide on a number of posts per week that you can be consistent with (3-5 is a good starting point)

2. Write copy for your posts

You want to start writing down the idea of the post or the copy of your caption.

(I do this in Trello!)

You can use Google Docs, a project management tool like ClickUp, or the Notes app! Whatever works for you!

3. Add hashtags

You can add hashtags in the same space as you added your copy, or later when you schedule your social media.

I use Flick.tech or Metricool for hashtag research.

4. Create Content

Pick 2-3 colors and 1-2 fonts and have fun on Canva!

5. Upload to a scheduler

I use Metricool for my social media scheduler. You just upload your graphics and copy and paste the captions. You can even see what it will look like in the feed!

6. Schedule

Decide the date and time that you want your post to go out. You can even do this with carousel posts now!

7. Repurpose

Duplicate and edit your post with the best practices from each platform.

For example:

  • Instagram is cool with using all 30 hashtags; on other platforms, you need a lot less
  • Twitter will likely need a shorter caption
  • Maybe you want to keep your caption more profesh for LinkedIn

8. Analysis

Keep an eye on your results with monthly analytics for each platform.

This is how with me, my assistant, and the help of my scheduler Metricool, I’m able to stay SUPER present on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

[And no, I’m not one of those social media gurus that says this “Just takes an hour”]

What about video content?

To be honest, I’m not ahead enough in life to create a month’s worth of video content in advance, HOWEVER, if you are OR if you want to do this on a weekly basis, you can follow the same formula! [albeit maybe in a little bit of a different order]

Here’s the step-by-step:

  1. Make a strategy
  2. Write down post ideas
  3. Create & edit content
  4. Upload to a scheduler
  5. Add captions and hashtags
  6. Schedule (yep, you can schedule TikToks & Reels now!)
  7. Repurpose (I use Repurpose.io to do this!)
  8. Analysis

Now, get to creating so you can schedule your social for a month, and focus on the things in business that are…well…business.
